Santa Clarita Community Spotlight: Canyon Country

Green rolling hills and gorgeous views in Canyon Country CA.

Sometimes we “SClaritans” confuse the out-of-town types when we say we hail from Valencia, or Saugus, Newhall, Castaic, Canyon Country, and who the heck is Stevenson, and why are all these houses on his ranch?

I’ll be dotting my superblog with community spotlights from time to time so that if you’re not from Santa Clarita, but want to know more about the communities that make up this great valley, I’ll be your super tour guide!

Many people know Valencia, mostly because it’s the home of  Magic Mountain. Some people realize they pass through Stevenson Ranch while traveling up the 5 freeway to get to Magic Mountain, and a few hearty types traveling to parts north maybe even realize that a small community called Castaic exists as they make their way to the Grapevine and beyond.

But where’s Canyon Country? Here’s a hint: It’s neither a canyon, nor a country! It’s a community smack dab in the middle of the Santa Clarita Valley that offers a diversity of housing choices and is a great place to plant roots.

Canyon Country began in earnest with the building of the North Oaks Lower housing development in the early 60s. Those homes are still around today just north of Soledad Canyon Road off of White’s Canyon. Prior to that however, there were a few small homes built WAAAYY out of the way in a place called Sand Canyon. Sand Canyon now boasts some of the most beautiful luxury estates and ranch properties in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Canyon Country takes up most of the eastern portion of the city of Santa Clarita, bordering Saugus on the west and north side, and Newhall to the south, and has an estimated population of nearly 60,000 residents.

You can see this view by driving just a few miles south down Sand Canyon to Bear Divide

Back to the diversity of housing choices: Canyon Country has something for every home buyer; from entry-level condominiums, quaint single family homes, some of the most FANTASTIC view homes in the valley, and (As mentioned earlier) luxury estates and ranch properties in the Sand Canyon area.

Canyon Country is conveniently located to major commuter access points including the 14 freeway as well as its own Metrolink train station.
